Australians are starting to feel more optimistic about the prospect of traveling again.

Since the beginning of 2021 we’ve seen a surge in travel demand. However, border closures and lockdowns have caused a lot of disruption.

Once all restrictions are dropped, there will be a huge bounce-back.

Are you keen to head to a tropical island or see family and friends? Everyone is asking the same question - when can we travel and to where?

A sense of determination to travel has been building. Some are calling this phenomenon “revenge travel.”

What is ‘revenge travel’?

While the term might sound a bit over-the-top, ‘revenge travel’ is about determined travellers wanting to take revenge on being locked up for so long.

It’s also about retribution for the various policies since early 2020 that have disrupted so many people’s travel plans.

It is a product of another phenomenon called 'lockdown-fatigue', coined last year by AIIMS Delhi director Dr Randeep Guleria.

When can we travel?

Prime Minister Scott Morrison recently said that people should be able to travel interstate and internationally by December 2021.

Morrison continues to pressure state and territory leaders to adhere to the national plan to reopen the country.

Where can we travel?

Fiji looks like first cab off the rank. This Travel Weekly article as well as other news releases make it clear that December is the guaranteed start of the next Fiji travel boom.

Samoa is likely to open up in early 2022 along with Singapore and New Zealand.
